Johnny Depp allegedly flew into a drunken jealous rage at the thought of his wife Amber Heard cheating on him, smashing bottles and windows and cutting the tip off his fingertip – then scrawling on the walls in blood and paint.

The accident delayed filming of the latest Pirates of the Caribbean installment for two weeks, as Depp flew back to the US for surgery. At the time, the production team on the Gold Coast of Australia described Depp’s injury as an on-set accident.

The explosive claims were filed by Heard, with pictures reminiscent of gruesome Hollywood special effects, during a hearing in her acrimonious divorce battle from the actor.

Heard filed for divorce from the Pirates of the Caribbean star on May 23, and took out a restraining order. Both sides have insisted that they want to resolve the matter in private, yet a steady stream of increasingly-damaging leaks from the case have emerged.

Last week a video taken by Heard was leaked, showing Depp drunk and belligerent, threatening Heard to "show you crazy". Depp's legal team said the video had been "heavily edited."

Depp has been painted as a violent, unstable man prone to rage and heavy drinking, while Heard has been cast as a liar who invented the abuse to snatch Depp’s vast fortune. Friends have taken sides, speaking out in defence of either Depp or Heard, and savaging the other.

Heard claims, according to gossip website TMZ, that a violent argument took place in Australia, in March 2015 – a month after they married.

Depp, who was Hollywood’s highest paid actor at the beginning of the decade, was allegedly drunk and had taken ecstasy.

He accused Heard of cheating on him and smashed up their villa, accidentally cutting the tip off his finger.

The 53-year-old then dipped what remained of his finger in paint, which Heard had to create works of art, wrote on the wall in blue scrawl the words "Billy Bob" and "Easy Amber."

Heard had starred in a film with Billy Bob Thornton and she claimed that Depp accused the pair of sleeping together - something she strongly denied. Depp also accused her of cheating on him with other men.

Heard’s legal team claim that Depp did not seek medical help for nearly 24 hours, so doctors could not reattach the fingertip and were forced to use a flap from his hand to sew on a new tip.

Depp’s injury put filming of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell no Tales on hold for two weeks – the film starring Javier Bardem and Orlando Bloom, and requiring a crew of 200 people.

Representatives for both are yet to comment.
