The past week certainly hasn’t been an easy one for Kanye West.

Last Thursday, the rapper stopped his Saint Pablo show to tell a San Jose crowd that he didn’t vote, but if he had, he “would have voted for Trump,” prompting fans to burn his merchandise in protest. He followed up that outburst by coming for Beyoncé and Jay-Z in a vicious rant. Then, news broke Monday night that the artist had been hospitalized for extreme mental exhaustion and his remaining tour dates would be cancelled.

We hope he recovers quickly, and so do his friends. On Wednesday morning, Lady Gaga fired off a series of tweets in which she defended West and encouraged others to show more empathy in their actions. "It's not funny to joke about anyone's possible or not possible mental illness, this is a sensitive time for many," she began. She went on to declare that though she hasn't always agreed with his actions, she hopes that people will treat both West and one another with more compassion. "@kanyewest i support and love u brother, I see in your bravery and courage to stop this tour and take care of YOU," she concluded.

Her tweets prompted a swift response from fans. Some echoed Gaga's statements about mental health and other simply wished West well in his recovery. "Amen! Treat each other with love and respect no matter who you are or how much money you got in ur pocket," one user wrote.

Mental health and self care has been a hot topic in Hollywood recently. The news of Kanye West’s hospitalization came only a day after Selena Gomez moved the internet to tears with a touching speech at the American Music Awards. Gomez addressed the crowd and her fans with moving words about self-acceptance and living authentically. "If you are broke you don't have to stay broken," Gomez said.
While there have been no major updates about the rapper or his condition, it's safe to say that when he is ready to enter public life, he'll have friends and fellow musicians like Lady Gaga championing him.
