Carrie Fisher, best known for playing Princess Leia in the Star Wars movie series.

Reportedly suffered a heart attack on an airplane today and is now at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in critical condition. The 60-year old actress and author was aboard an 11-hour United Airlines Flight 935 on her way back to Los Angeles from London, where she was promoting her eighth book: The Princess Diarist. Details right now are a bit fuzzy but apparently she went into cardiac arrest and became unresponsive for about 10 minutes shortly before landing and required CPR to restore her pulse. The latest news is that she is in the intensive care unit (ICU) on a ventilator. Fans have reacted on social media:

Yes, Fisher is probably best known for her iconic role as the leader of the Rebel forces in four Star Wars movies, including the first Star Wars movie (with her Cinnabon-like headphone hairstyle), the Empire Strikes Back, the Return of the Jedi (which had a ton of Ewoks), and the Force Awakens (even though not all of the audience did). However, Fisher’s career extended well beyond the Star Wars franchise. Her film debut occurred in the movie Shampoo in 1975. She also had notable roles in the original Blues Brothers as Jake’s ex who terrorizes him with an extensive artillery, The Man with One Red Shoe, Hannah and her Sisters, When Harry Met Sally, Drop Dead Fred, Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, Soapdish, and Scream 3, where she plays a person often mistaken for Carrie Fisher. Her first book was Postcards from the Edge, a best selling and award winning semi-autobiographical novel that eventually became a film starring Meryl Streep, Shirley MacLaine, and Dennis Quaid. She also starred in a one-woman Broadway show, Wishful Drinking, that eventually became an HBO and a book. Fisher recently finished filming Star Wars: Episode VIII.
