What is surrogacy?
Surrogacy is the name given for a type of pregnancy where a woman carries and gives birth to another person's baby.
The surrogate mother is then expected to give up the baby at birth, so it can be raised by the couple who originally wanted the baby.
Surrogacy is often an option for those unable to have children themselves, or for same sex couples.
According to surrogacy charity Childlessness Overcome Through Surrogacy (COTS), there are two different types of surrogacy.
Traditional surrogacy: When the surrogate uses her own egg fertilised with the intended father's sperm.
Gestational surrogacy: The surrogate carries the intended parent's genetic child conceived through IVF, for which specialist doctors are needed
Who is Kim and Kanye's surrogate?
In July 2017 it was reported that Kim and Kanye are using an "agency" surrogate to have a third child.
And in September TMZ revealed that the surrogate is a "married African-American college graduate with two children of her own".
She's also said to be a Democrat in "great physical shape".
The identity of Kimye's surrogate has been kept private, though reports claim she was being "pampered" by the couple as she carries their bundle of joy.
A source - who claimed the surrogate was expecting twins - told Life & Style magazine: "The surrogate is being pampered and given everything she wants. Kim has been checking in and bringing her whatever she needs. So far she has gotten a clean bill of health.
"They have hired security for the surrogate, because Kanye doesn’t want to take any chances with the safety of the baby. The security is very low-key, because Kanye doesn’t want the neighbors to realize the surrogate is carrying their baby."
Kanye and Kim allegedly paid £90,000 to kick off this process.
And latest reports suggest the pair are seriously concerned for their child and the surrogate's safety after photos of her were leaked online.
The 27-year-old stay-at-home mum has been revealed after photos of the pregnant surrogate have been touted to publications.
Following the revelation, a source told The Sun Online: "As soon as they got told the surrogate had been pictured, and that the photos were out there, Kim and Kanye got desperately worried.
"They wanted to keep her identity private, both for her safety and the baby's. It was their number one priority."
