Shrek and Puss in Boots are back.

More than 10 years after the release of the original fantasy film about the ogre, the films are set to be rebooted by the CEO of Illumination Entertainment, Chris Meledandri, according to Variety.
Fans of the franchise will be delighted to learn Meledandri is also keen on reuniting the original voice cast for the upcoming reboot.
'When you look back on those vocal performances they're awesome, and while you certainly could make a case for a complete reinvention, I find myself responding to my own nostalgic feelings of wanting to go back to those characterizations,' the producer explained.
Meledandri will be responsible for creating fresh story lines about the characters for a new generation of audience goers, according to Variety.
'The challenge for us has been to find something that really does feel like it's not simply yet another film in a series of sequels.'
Meledandri wants this reboot to truly stand on it's own.
'You want to find something in the narrative that really feels like a departure.'
The star-studded original cast of the hysterical series featured Mike Meyers as Shrek, Eddie Murphy as Donkey, Antonio Banderas as Puss In Boots, and Cameron Diaz as Fiona.
The wildly successful franchise debuted in 2001 and followed the adventures of Shrek, his sidekick Donkey, wife Princess Fiona, and Puss In Boots.
The original film was the recipient of the first-ever Academy Award For Best Animated Feature.
From television specials to a Broadway adaptation, Shrek has become a household name and worldwide phenomenon.
