When fandoms come into play, we’ve all heard some pretty intense and bizarre stories — from stars being followed at the airport to fans blurting out embarrassing things when in the presence of people like Taylor Swift and Shawn Mendes.

Diehard fans can tend to go overboard where their faves are concerned (hello stan Twitter) but one serious Harry Potter fan might take the cake.
In a recent interview, actor Tom Felton — known for his infamous role as the silver-haired and silver-tongued Slytherin that is Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter franchise — revealed his most absurd fan encounter to date, and it goes way beyond what you might think.
Speaking to Yahoo Movies UK about his upcoming YouTube series Origin, Tom couldn’t help but take it back to his Potter days when discussing fan meetings (maybe his recent mini reunion with fellow HP actor Emma Watson helped jog his memory?)
“I’ve got some very strange letters,” Tom told Yahoo. “One man wanted to adopt me. He had changed his name legally to Lucius Malfoy and wanted me to change my name to Draco Malfoy and to legally adopt me. I declined!”
Per DigitalSpy, this isn’t the first time Tom has shared this rather interesting request with the general public. Almost a decade ago, in 2009, he reportedly told GQ the same story, so it’s safe to say the memory has long lingered in mind. Way to make an impression, I guess?
In the same interview, apart from the creepily mysterious petition, Tom also revealed some fans still blur the line between his real-life persona and his character from the beloved saga — something which is quite ubiquitous for actors these days.
“I’ve got some angry Americans tell me ‘Leave Harry Potter alone man! What did he ever do to you?’ but are deadly serious in how they deliver it,” Tom recounted. “They seem to think I had some kind of influence on [J.K.] Rowling’s writing!”
