IT Chapter 2 star James McAvoy has revealed Bill Skarsgard’s Pennywise clown was so terrifying on set the adult cast didn’t want to be there.

Set 27 years after 2017’s 80s-set box office smash, It Chapter 2 sees the Losers’ Club all grown up and returning to the town of Derry, Maine. Pennywise the Dancing Clown has returned and the gang have to team up once again to put this ancient evil to rest. James McAvoy stars as Bill Denbrough, opposite Jessica Chastain and Bill Hader, and the Glass actor has revealed just how freaky the Pennywise actor was on set. Speaking on Good Morning America of Skarsgard, McAvoy said: “He's amazing. The guy who plays the clown is terrifying.”
McAvoy continued: “He's a lovely guy, and yet he really freaked me out.
“I remember standing there with the rest of the cast, all these adults, and we'd all done weird freaky stuff.
“And we are all looking at each other going, ‘I don't like being here. I don't like being an actor today.’
“He really did, he really freaked me out. I never liked clowns as a kid.”
IT Chapter 2 is yet to release its first trailer, although a teaser poster landed back in November.
The first trailer for IT arrived in March 2017, so presumably, that’s around when we’ll get our first look at the adult Losers’ Club and Pennywise’s return.
At the time the trailer became the most viewed in its first 24 hours ever, with 197 million hits.
However, come November of that year it was topped by Avengers Infinity War’s 230 million.
The film’s screenwriter has teased that IT Chapter 2’s ending is going to break fans’ hearts.
Speaking with Slash Film, Gary Dauberman said: “No, this is a complete story.
“The ending I think will satisfy the audience and maybe break their hearts a little bit.”
IT Chapter 2 is released in UK cinemas on September 6, 2019.
